I’ve been using PS 7 for some time, but I’ve never used a plug-in. I finally saw one that looked interesting and downloaded it. I extracted the file, and copied the file into Program Files>Adobe> Photoshop7.

I can’t figure out how to use the plug-in. When I have an image open, and want to use the plug-in, what do I do?

There isn’t anything that you can do. You didn’t install it correctly, so just forget using it.

1– you need to put it in the plug-in directory
2–when it’s in the right place, it will appear on the filters menu 3–read this
http://thepluginsite.com/knowhow/tutorials/plugin/MakingAvai lable.htm and try again.
4– there are so many different kinds of plugins, there’s no way for me to answer your last question. It’s a little like saying, "I’m hungry, how do I make food?" If I tell you "Just put it in a bowl and add milk and sugar", that
is great advice for cornflakes, but would be dangerous or disgusting if what you have is ground beef or raw liver.

OK, tell me how to word the question and I’ll do the best I can. Here’s the best accounting I can provide so far:

The plug-in I downloaded is UltraSharpen601Lite from the Adobe Studio Exchange at http://tinyurl.com/w62c.

It’s a 8LI file when I click Properties.

The link you provided says:
Adobe Photoshop/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Image Ready

Make sure you installed or copied the 8bf files into the "Plugins" or "Plug-ins" sub folder inside the Photoshop/Illustrator/ImageReady folder. After restarting the application, you will find them in the Filter menu.

I don’t know the difference between a 8bf and a 8li file.

The hierarchy of my file system is: Program Files>Adobe>Photoshop
7.0>Plug-Ins>Adobe Photoshop Only>Filters

I’ve extracted the files and moved into Plug-Ins and then to Filters, and I still can’t access it.

Obviously, I’m putting it in the wrong place, but I can’t figure out where to put it.

If I haven’t provided complete information, let me know what to provide.

There’s an Acrobat Reader Users Guide, but it doesn’t open. Something’s broken in their file..

Why do you bother with this kind of reply? It seems a waste of your time and limited mental resources to do so. Be helpful, be witty, or ignore the post. Inane comments just take space.

Hey, if you don’t chose to help me, that’s fine. The impression that I get is that you are incapable of providing a workable solution, but you have a need to see your name on the screen.

This is a discussion group and not a help line. You’re under no obligation to provide any help. Some choose to.

They are using version 6 – which sucketh mightily, because it isn’t backwards compatible.

Ah, you do know how it works!

You downloaded software that you can’t use because it hasn’t been installed correctly. It’s not rocket science. The directions for installing plugins are pretty clear through version 6. Refer to the manual.

Did you copy the file into the "Plugin folder" If you did it should show up in the Filters menu, when you have an image open!

I must say, that is one of the most pointless and unhelpful posts I have ever seen on Usenet. It wasn’t even funny or obscene. Use Yahoo and find yourself a life shop, old chap: you need a new one.

You have to put install plugins with Photoshop not open then start it up. Did you do it that way?

Doh! Here’s the answer: It appears in the Automate menu.

Dunno why the pdf didn’t open for you. Had no problem here.

There you go. It was sitting there in Automate. Clicking on it there does work. Can’t figure out how it ended up in Automate, but it did. Oddly, when I open the Automate folder, the S601lite is not in this folder. It’s in the Filters folder.

Anyway, thanks for the help. It was getting frustrating.

Now, I’ll have to figure if the plug-in is at all useful.

Every time I try to open it, I get a message that says there was an error opening this document, and this viewer cannot decrypt this document. The viewer is Acrobat Reader 3.0.

Yes, I did do it that way. It turns out the plug-in is in Automate and not listed in Filters.

BTW, some time ago I downloaded a set of actions that took a photograph image and "cartoonized" it. Due to a re-install, I lost the actions. It was a neat set of actions and kind of fun with certain images. The link was in a posting in this newsgroup.

Were you the one that came up with those? Under your "Extras" link you mention actions, but none are listed.

No wonder you don’t try to provide help. You couldn’t explain how to get out of a revolving door. Version 6 of what? Photoshop? Acrobat?

The plug-in was – evidently – installed correctly. It just didn’t show up in Filters the way the manual says plug-ins do. It shows up in Automate. A more helpful person, that is able to write coherently, pointed this out.

The plugin seems to work whether it’s in the Plugins folder or the Automate folder though Automate is recommended. It’s not really a filter, rather a series of Photoshop moves, thus Automate. I didn’t care for it and trashed it off my system.

I would upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat.

BTW I have not yet gotten around to doing my Photoshop page so that’s why the link goes nowhere. Not enough time in the day.

Many plug-ins are opened by opening a file that you want to work on then goto FILTER and the name of the plug-in should be listed. Just click on this.
