Changing inks in Epson 2400

Hi, why do I have to shut down and reset my printer settings every time I change from matt black to photo black? It’s very cumbersome and time-consuming and I’m surprised at Epson designing something so clunky. Also, how long do these K3 inks remain fade-proof for? The inks in my 890 had faded after two months on the wall.
