Hi All
I’m rather new to this, but I wonder if anybody can point me in the right direction to get the proper plug in(s) for Photoshop 7, please? I am running Windows98se – if that makes a difference.
One more question… as you can see I’m not a big spender on up to date software BUT …. IF I wanted to upgrade from Photoshop version 7 can I buy a direct upgrade to CS2? or do I have to buy a full release (New) package? Thanks for your help

IIRC, the RAW plug-in (ACR) was offered at the time of v7, as an add-on for ~US$99. It is no longer supported by Adobe and the list of supported cameras was quite low – think of how many have been introduced since PS7.

You might be able to find it on Ebay, though you may have to look and wait.

As to the second part of your question, you can upgrade at any time, from a registered copy of PS. You will only be able to upgrade to CS2, as CS is no longer part of the upgrade path. Seems that the upgrade for just PS-CS2 is ~US$149, and some re-sellers may even have it slightly discounted. One choice to make is whether you would want the full suite (CS2 Premium), with all of the other programs. I believe that one can do the full upgrade from only one (1) registered program, such as AI, or PS. As I had nearly all of Adobe’s programs, I didn’t read the fine print. Check that part out with Adobe, before you go for it. That full package is ~US$399.

So, for a little more than the original cost of the ACR plug-in with limited support for cameras, you can get the newest ver of PS-CS2.

The only problem with upgrading is you cannot use Windows 98 and any of the CS versions of Photoshop… You need XP or 2000.

Very good point that I completely missed. Thanks for that clarification. This would very obviously be of direct interest to the OP.

and you will not be sorry. Upgrading to XP is more important than the PS upgrade IMO.
XP is so much better than win 98, more stable, easier to use, organized better, wizards for everything, no crashes and endless re-starts, better driver support.

because I am female and going broke? if I was Bill G I wouldn’t be here answering your PS questions.
I have used windows since 3.1 so XP is a huge improvement, especially for explaining how to use it to noobs.
