An add-on question to the Epson 1280. Is there an acceptable 13 x 19 or 12 x 18 quality photo stock that I can use with the Epson. It seems that Epson only make an ink jet quality only in that size.

TIA

Quite a few people sell photo quality paper in that size. In fact, the Epson papers are definitely photo quality.

I can recommend Ilford Galerie Classic Pearl 13 x 19 @ 2880 dpi for photos. They sell an 8.5 x 11" sample pack (glossy and matte too, I think) for about $10.
If you’re interested, Crane’s Museo makes beautiful art prints, same size. Photos lose some detail but are very rich in appearance, especially the blacks. Not sure if they have sample packs.

Check out redriverpaper.com
They stock 13×19 and other sizes for panoramics (NOT roll). They also offer a sample pack including different papers AND profiles, for ~$8.00. Wish other paper makers can do that.

Actually I use their Premium Matte rolls for artwork. They’re great people to deal with too, I had a problem with some paper and they sent me more, express delivery, no charge. ~Doc

How would you compare RedRiver’s Premium Matte using their profile to Epson’s hwm using Epson’s profile, on a 1270 or 1280? Thanks.

That’s an awkward question for me to answer as I’ve used a constant feed system with MIS inks for several years now. When I was using Epson’s inks I used the profile for the 1290 that’s available (at least it was) on their UK site. The 1290 profiled each paper type as opposed to the 1280 generic printer profile. As I recall I was satisfied with the results for HWM, I’ve still got a proof in my portfolio that is bang on for flesh tone. I can’t say the same for the Premium Gloss. The profile for it made my printer act like a thing possessed.

Perhaps there’s a misunderstanding here. I was asking for a comparison between RedRiver’s Premium Matte against Epson’s hwm.

No misunderstanding, I answered the question you asked as best I could. As for a comparison between RedRiver’s Premium Matte and Epson’s HWM I’ve never printed the same thing on both but I can tell you is the HWM is brighter and whiter.

I’ve used both the Epson Photo Paper (S041143) and the Ilford Gallerie Classic Gloss. The papers give very different looking results. The Ilford has a 3 dimensional feel. I mean literally. When you look at the surface obliquely you will see raised areas. I think these occur where the ink has been absorbed and swollen the paper sizing. It doesn’t affect the image when viewed normally.

The color of the image is also slightly redder than the Epson on my HP. I haven’t tried both on my new Canon 9900, however.
