If you are on the Mac, the images would indeed appear darker because Macs use a different gamma value. You can brighten them up for other Mac users by using one of the 1.8 gamma spaces, such as Apple RGB, as your working space instead of Adobe RGB.

If your emails are destined for PC users, set your working space to sRGB. —

First of all, he’s working on a PC. The headers of his post say it posted using Outlook Express. Secondly, more and more Macs are also calibrated at gamma 2.2 because that is the native gamma of most displays. Use sRGB for Macs too.
