I am currently trying to get to grips with the patch tool on CS but keep experiencing the following problem which I’d appreciate some help on.
Although I am selecting the area to ‘patch’ Ok and have the ‘source’ option selected I keep getting a blurred and washed out area of the area I am trying to repair.
When I drag the selected area for repair to the area I want to replicate, the area within the patch changes Ok but when I release the mouse button to apply the patch I am left with a washed out image for the selected area I was trying to repair.
Any help on what I’m doing wrong is much appreciated.

Rob,

I do not know if this is your problem, or not, but if there is an area that is much lighter, or darker, right at the edge of your Selection, the Patch Tool does similar to your description. The "workaround" that I have found, is to use the Patch Tool on a smaller area, then the Clone Tool for the area, that approaches the very light, or very dark portion of the image.

As there is not a direct Opacity option in the Healing/Patch Tool, unless one puts them onto a separate Layer and adjusts the Opacity there, I am not sure what is causing your problem. My first thought would be to explore the image area near the border of the Selection. Also, if you are making the Selection with one of the conventional Selection Tools, check the Feather setting.
