Can’t exactly recall (and truthfully, didn’t think much about it at the time as XP wasn’t going to be part of my future…) but is there a problem loading true type fonts onto XP?

I am getting the new Toshiba P20 (P25 in the States) on Monday which is running XP PRO and of course wish to be able to access all my fonts…… if there aren’t
any problems, then great! – if there are problems, could someone please point me to/post a fix or let me know what I can do?

And to all those MAC aficionados, I would’ve LOVED to have bought the G4(5?) with the 17inch widescreen, but just couldn’t afford it……. what a sexy beast!….maybe next time.

Thanks in advance

I haven’t had a problem with TT fonts on my XP machine.

As True Type is a proprietary Microsoft standard I don’t see why you should have a problem.

Not quite. Even M$’s own page on TrueType history states in its first sentence, "The TrueType digital font format was originally designed by Apple Computer, Inc." – and first shipped in Apple’s System 7 (with an extension for System 6). M$ seems to have been essentially a licensee. The standard has also been implemented under open source licenses (http://www.freetype.org/).

To the OP’s question, yes, XP supports TrueType fonts.

The only problem that I know if is when you install to many fonts. Some programs don’t like that and if you go above 300 or so you will slow Windows and programs down. Also, Photoshop beyond a certain number of fonts will just stop showing all of them. Other than things like that TrueType and the new OpenType (Replacement for TTF) work fine in XP.

Thanks.Didn’t realise that. I suspect that in a few years time it will become moot with Open Type anyway.
