Problems with Color Settings PS7

Since upgrading a while back from PS6 to PS7 for Mac, I have problems with colour (color!) when importing photos taken on my Canon digital camera. No matter how I adjust PhotoShops’s Color Settings or Proof Setup there is always a discrepancy.

I view the photos in iPhoto or iViewMedia and they look fine. The color profile for the camera is the standard(?) sRGB IEC61966, but if PS’s RGB Color Setting is set to sRGB IEC61966 then any photo I import into PS has an over-saturated look to it. If I make any adjustments to the photo and re-save it, the over-saturation is present in the re-saved version when viewed in iPhoto or iViewMedia.

If I set the Color Settings RGB to "Apple Studio Display" then I get the "Color Mismatch " dialog. If I choose not to color manage then the photo looks fine. But I wish I didn’t have to go through the process of dealing with that dialog each time I open a photo.

I did not have this problem with PS6 – I’ve even imported my old PS6 color profiles into PS7, but no luck.

Despite reading up on color profiles and color settings I still feel rather nervous about the whole color management thing! I just can’t understand why an sRGB IEC61966 photo imported into PS with an sRGB IEC61966 color setting looks so different?

Thanks in advance.
