Photoshop slowed down after SP-2 installed

Right after installing MS Service Pack SP-2 on my WinXP Pro PC, Photoshop CS edits slowed down noticeably. Launching speed of Photoshop remains about the same. But opening a 100mb+ file takes much longer, so does editing after the file is opened. The PC has 1G ram and plenty of scratch space, and the Photoshop reference setups are not changed. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

Check Device Manager, under IDE controllers, primary and secondary channels, make sure DMA mode is still enabled
for your hard drives.

Current Transfer Mode is "Ultra DMA Mode 5" for the primary, and Mode 2 for the secondary. I think that means DMA is enabled.

It is a custom built desktop.
