Strange CS2 problem

I’m running a P4 system with 1Gb RAM, Windows XP Home SP2. I’ve run previous
versions of PS on this machine with no problem – plenty of speed. Having upgraded to CS2 (from CS) I’m now experiencing a very frustrating problem which is affecting my work. Basically, whenever I use the eyedropper tool to
sample a colour (or when I Ctrl and drag over an image with Curves open on a
channel to sample colour range) my system takes a long time to calculate the
result. There’s lots of hard drive spinning for about 2 minutes before I can
use CS2 again. I’m using a seperare scratch disc and, like I’ve said, have never had any issues with running PS on this system before. Any ideas on what’s going on? Thanks.

I can’t help much, but I felt that after moving from 7 to CS, my machine also slowed down considerably.

This was being discussed recently, and someone said that PS is now even

heavily dependant on the amount of RAM, than it used to be. Where 1gig

to be considered enough, more folks are now having to install 2 or 3 gig. There seemed to be some confusion as to when the change was made 7 to CS

CS to CS2.

No doubt some of the real tecchies will soon let us know exactly what is going on.

I’ve heard about the extra demands CS2 places on RAM as well, but almost everything else seems to work at about the same speed on my machine EXCEPT when I ask it to sample a colour. I don’t believe this is a particularly resource-hungry process, so it seems like there’s something else going on here.

I used 1 GB of RAM on 7 and CS, but CS2 was noticeably slower. I put another gig in to bring it to 2 GB. That was great! CS2 really likes 2 GB of memory. Spend the money; you won’t be sorry.
