How do I delete the prefs file in Photoshop 7.0? Pressing CTRL ALT SHIFT doesn’t work. I was told to delete the file called Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp, but don’t have that one on my system.

I have WIN98SE and Photoshop 7.0.1

I recently got a new main hard drive after a crash(where I keep the OS) Since that time I get a user information error when I try to use PS.

Thanks, JO

Are you pressing CTRL ALT SHIFT right after you start PS?

The file your are looking for is "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp" on windows xp it would be in

C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings

On 98??
try doing a search for the file name.

I think that your news server might not have gotten the responses to your article. Hope you get this one. Charles in Torrance, CA responded:

Thanks so much for the reply, but I don’t have any Adobe file with "prefs" in it , nor any files with a psp extension.

The secondary drive (D:) was not affected, only C: where the OS was, so no files have been deleted. This may be a registry problem where the program is looking for info that isn’t there any more. It should recreate preferences if the file is gone, but it doesn’t.

Hi Jo,

As soon as you double click on the PS7 icon, hold down CTRL and ALT and Shift all at the same time.

You have to press those keys right after you click the icon. You will then be asked if you want to delete the settings file. Click yes and your preferences will be reset to factory defaults.

Hope this helps.
