In the next 3 years Photoshop will jump into the era of 3D object formats, that will deal with 3D space rather than 2D space, and you will be able to import DXF objects (or any other format, like that invented before by Electric Image), and deal with them in any angle using any kind of lighting, rotate them, texturize them, compute and render real field depth, generate cross-sections by intersection with boolean objects, etc. That will be an amazing addition to Photoshop. They have some problems concerning the rendering procedure. They will solve it and jump into that dimension. That dimension will enable people to deal with 3D objects using layers. I can imagine how this is done, but I will wait and see.

And you know this… how?

Please, don’t lie to the users – let them see the new features and decide whether they need them or not for THEMSELVES.

Hi Chris!

It seems that my sources were correct one year ago in this thread:

New Photoshop CS2 Emerges Head…!!!

Please, do not accuse people of lying… The dreams of Photoshop 3D are probably on their way to realize. Adobe launched their Acrobat 3D software here:

Today Acrobat 3D tomorrow Photoshop 3D!

Is this a lie too?

The name of the product, and overview indicates that Adobe3D cannot _create_ 3D objects, but it can render and save and annotate (and mildly transform) those created in a separate genuine CAD program. Adobe3D is to mainly to bring those files/images into the Acrobat domain.

So far, Mr. Cox is right.

Well, this is fun. I tried to install Acrobat 3D and got this: http://elearning.winona.edu/jjs/BUG.gif

I have a more functional product installed? Well, I sure would like to know what it is!

It will happen – look at the market. Now that Adobe own Macromedia’s products they will be looking to compete with Microsoft. Microsoft has it’s own 3D mark-up language, part of their XAML which is built into Windows Vista (the next major Windows release, later this year). So, will Adobe let MS eat another market (the Flash market). I doubt it, and the competition will force Adobe to innovate (I hope), which should result in better features soon. Will we see elements of Flash intergrate into Creative Suite? I should imagine so, within the next 2 years. This will naturally encourage the introduction of 3D seeing as Windows Vista will be natively displaying it (so, instant captive market of many millions of users).
