I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called, but I want to make a selection on one image, then use that same exact path for making selections on other images. I want the same shape cutouts of several images. How can I do that?

Thanks,

Peter

It’s so easy, you’ll die when you see how to do it. 🙂

Make a selection. Click inside the selection and hold down the mouse button. Drag the selection to another document window.

Wow, that is easy! How about saving that path for later use?

Thanks,

Peter

One can also use the Path Selection tool (filled arrow) to drag a path from one document to another. Or to simply copy/paste.

When I try that, it takes the selected pixels into the other image. I’d like to do something similar to what the OP wants, and that is to create a path with a large feather, and use it to create selections on a bunch of same sized images, and end up with just the selection saved.ie. deleting the background. I assume I can make an action to bring in the path, make it a selection, pause, move the selection a tad, resume the action and have it make a new layer with the selection, and then flatten the image and save…..

You’re probably using the move tool. You need to do it with one of the selection tools.

Are you talking about a SELECTION or a PATH? You keep saying "path," but I believe you are talking about a selection.

You save a path by double-clicking on it in the Paths palette. You save a selection with the Select->Save Selection command.

You’re using the wrong tool to move the selection.

Make your selection, for example with the Lasso or Marquee tool, then click inside the selection with the Lasso or Marquee tool, hold down the mouse button, and drag to the other image.

Thanks; now it’s quite clear. I kept looking to use a selection arrow and couldn’t do it.

For about 120 photos, I’d to create a somewhat jagged path with a large feather, and use it to create selections on a bunch of same sized images, and end up with just the selection saved.ie. deleting the background.

Can I, and I assume I can, make an action to bring in the path, make it a selection, pause, move the selection a tad, resume the action and have it make a new layer with the selection, and then flatten the image and save….. or is there a better way. These are all waist up shots I want to turn into head shots with the bg fading away.

Look in help to see how to make & store a layer mask as an alpha channel.

There is also a vignette action you can edit and use. That’s what you’re making, vignettes.

Yes, you are right. I do mean selection. I was trying to differentiate between the dotted selection and the cutout inside it that it is selecting.

Thanks again,

Peter
