Kjell,

Dup the image and convert to Lab mode. Use levels on the L chanel to get a relatively soft mask that selects the reflections, and fill the white background of the image with black.

Add a new empty layer to the original image, create a layer mask and alt-click onthe layer mask. Copy and paste the L channel mask you created as the layer mask and alt-click on the mask to toggle it into normal mode again..

Select a representative area of wood, and define a pattern. Fill the layer with the wood pattern. This makes the reflections disappear. Then play with the transparency to get the look right. Don’t try to get rid of all of the reflections.

Another way to get a mask would be to create a "hide all" layer mask, fill with your wood pattern, set the pattern layer in darken mode, and paint the reflections manually. The Lab mask took me about 20 seconds to create so I’d recommend learning that technique if you’ll be doing this sort of thing very often.

There is a sample .psd here:

and a more aggressive wood pattern, which looks better but takes more liberties:

Try copy you image to a new layer,
then try to darken your new layer with any method of your choice (curves-levels and so on), until the reflections disapear (no matter of the rest)
Then double click the new layer and in the first window you got two sliders with
2 little triangles on each side, separate the two triangles by hitting Alt-during drag and drop,
Do this to the first slider, at each end, see what you get… Seem very complicated but it’s not (better explained maybe…).

You can also "paint" the "dark" with the History brush, Do the same ’til you got the second layer darkened then choose the state "levels" in the history palette
(or what you chose to darken the image), choose the history brush, then go back of one "state" in the history palette, and "paint" your "level"
(or what…)
directly in your image (you can do this to a new layer for fully reversible effect.)

Check your Help files for extra infos (in English this time)

As usual,
There’s an infinity of way to do one single thing in Photoshop. (This might be engraved in the front of the FAQ edifice)

It took less than a minute using the Shadows/Highlights tool in PhotoshopCS (under image/adjustments). I did switch to the advanced mode though and played around with the sliders a bit.
I am very happy with the other suggested solutions though, they are much more versatile for many occasions. The blend modes will often be of good use for many a problem with real photos. It may be worthwile to have a closer look to what they actually do. Making a black/white wedge to test them on can be very insightfull. Good luck with that!
