Does anyone know how i could make an action to do this?
what i do manually in photoshop is:

image->resize
type in 96dpi for resolution
type in either 10 inches wide or 6 inches high, depending on the actual image, to not exceed 10×6
ok

file -> save as->jpeg.
since i am overwriting the original file in this folder, "yes" to replace
file size "7"

I can make an action in photoshop to resize to 96ppi but can’t find how to constrainthe size to no larger than 10 inches wide or 6 inches high. ( this part i can do in Imagready) Is there a way to make an action that does all of this in one go?

thanks.

You’ll have to make 1 action for 10"W and another for 6"H, naming them accordingly.

When you record your action for 10"W go to Image size, set Resolution to 96ppi, then set the pixel dimensions to 960px wide, click OK, stop recording. For the 6" action, in Image Size set Resolution to 96ppi, then set the pixel dimensions to 576px height, click OK, stop recording.

You won’t be able to batch process though unless you have your different size images in separate folders.

You can record File->Automate->Fit Image which allows you to constrain it within a rectangle.

That’s in CS; in version 6 I think it’s under the Help menu.

You have to do this in a two step action. First step, change only the ppi value to 96 ppi (no resizing). Second step, choose ‘Automate – Fit Image’ and fill in the following values: Width 960 pixels, Height 576 pixels.

In v 6 Fit Image is under Automate, but there’s nothing to designate ppi, so you still have to set that in Image Size where it could all be done in one step anyway.

As a side question, why are you saving as JPEG? What do you plan to do with the image?

JPEG is "lossy." It degrades the quality of the image. As a general rule, you should never use JPEG unless you have a clear, specific, and good reason why the image *must* be JPEG and no other format will work.

Whilst not being able to make an action this way! You could certainly do all of these things in a batch with Irfanview and you could save the settings for use another time!!
