I’m looking to find a tutorial on how to create the images shown on this link:

http://www.themagician8.com/bandsketches.html

I’ve been trying with all sorts of filters, but can’t seem to figure the way to come up with the very contasting light and dark, and horizontal lines
shown there.
It’s almost comic book-like.
Thanks a bunch!

you may try with a threshold (image>settings>threshold) after desaturate the picture
(ctrl+maj+U), later on use the graphic pen filter (filter>sketch>graphic pen)
that will do the trick.

No…sorry…that didn’t quite do it.
The graphite pen filter seems to kinda do the right effect (I had messed around with that one myself.)…but the lines aren’t as thick as in those pix
I posted. The threshold thing seems to get the right B&W effect…but then the lines don’t appear with the graphic pen filter.
This is a common effect, I’ve seen it a lot before…but I just can’t seem to duplicate it. Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Go to share.studio.adobe.com and type in Sketch in the search box for Photoshop files. There are a couple of freeware actions that you can download. Although these actions are canned and don’t allow for much customization, you can at least see what the steps are to get there.

What may make the lines come close to the thickness you want: resize to 50%, apply the graphic pen filter and upsize again to 200%. But I agree, I have seen it before, and it’s not the default Graphic Pen.

Lol, you’re welcome.
Actually Pjotr is a Russian name. The Pj sound similar to pu in (com-)pu-ter, but then without the vowel sound in the end. Followed by a "short" o and a well pronounced t (more or less like a double tt even), ending in a rolling r. I don’t have a phonetics font here so I can’t really help you there.

It’s not even my real name, Pjotr Wedersteers is an anagram for my real name: Sjoerd Westerterp (Sjoerd sounds like Sured, it’s Dutch, Fries actually))

What’s "Fries"?

He means the Frisian language, a language different than Dutch, that is spoken in the ‘Friesland’ province in the north of the country. It’s really a different language, not a Dutch dialect.

Thanks for helping out Johan! Lol.
So you’re in fact half Dutch Magician, a semi-fellow-countryman ! 😉

Johan, your last name is not that common here, you by chance related to Paul-Cees ?
