I borrowed photos and scanned them, but I used a too high scanner resolution and so the files are too big.

Is there any way to reduce the size to reasonable levels?

Of course it’s not possible, how could you even think you could change the IMAGE SIZE… sheesh….

There is always the manual. It does not bite, you know.
Even exploring the menu bar would have answered your question.

When scanning photographs, there is hardly ever a need to scan at dpi greater than 300-400.
But to address your present problem, just do as Jon said. Click IMAGE > IMAGE SIZE. Check the "resample" and "constrain dimensions" boxes and enter the number of pixels you want for the height or width. Click OK Done …..Bob Williams

There’s a fairly systematized tool for resizing an image.

Go to Help>Resize Image… and use the wizard to resize the image. For most purposes, set the lpi value to 150 and quality to 2x (that’s 3rd and 4th step).

As for file size (if you only want to reduce the file size and not the image itself) save as JPG. With high-res images, you don’t need a quality setting higher than 10. Of course, JPGs are lossy, so if you’re REALLY paranoid about image quality, save as TIFF or some other lossless format. But those are quite large (roughly 5~10 times as large in some cases).
