Is there a simple way of changing the background colour of an image?

For example, If I have a black object on a green background, I can change the background colour to blue, but the object will still have a green ‘haze’ where the black was originally blended with the background.

I guess I want to change the various shades of green to their equivalent shades of blue…

Thanks

Select your background using magic wand tool or similar. Goto Image > Adjustments > Hue / Saturation, click the colorize and preview options and adjust the Hue, Saturation and Lightness sliders.

that is what happens when you feather a selection when you use the marquee tool… try learning more about the extract command…

Try Select > color range > eye dropper the picture background color and adjust fuzziness slider.

You may have to adjust the selection (martching ants) with Select > Modify
Expand or Contract but this is a hit or miss prop. based on how much
aliasing there is on the edges.

Once your colors are selected Command/Control J to add it to a new layer, Control/Command Click the Layer image box (if its not still selected/marching ants) and
Edit > Fill with whatever color or pattern you want.
If the image has a lot of fine detail you might try the Extract trip but that isnt so simple.

Might also try diff blending modes, I’ve used that to add moons to blue sky, etc.
Double click on the layer (blue area–not the layer’s name) and see the two slider bars under Blend if …grey.
Try option/alt click to break the triangle sliders for more control of transparency.
