I find it frustrating that Photoshop does not have a single "Photoshop" procedure for printer settings. Within CS2 I want to set my Epson 1290 to default to my custom Epson setting of 720dpi Glossy Photo Paper, no high speed, no margins etc.

After setting this up, each time I want to make a print I have no confidence that my Epson saved settings will be used when printing from PS CS2 "print with preview". Frequently I see, or worse fail to see, that PS is about to print my photograph with "plain paper etc."

Is there somethign I can do to make my settings more "sticky"? Perhaps I am making and saving the custom setting incorrectly?

It is not just CS2, your printer driver is as much or more to blame for this than Photoshop. Not just Epson drivers but every driver than I am familiar with exhibits this same behavior.
If someone actually does have a solution for this I would like to hear it as well.

you set this in the printer driver
go to START>printers>right click your printer>printing preferences set what you want as default>OK>OK that’s it

Exactly. Alternatively, go to Control Panel, Printers.

I think I’m beginning to understand the problem. I’m using the 1290 for general letter printing using of course plain paper. This is the default setting in XP. When photo printing I had expected that PS CS2 would remember that I would want to use a custom setting for photo paper and of course "no colour control". Works for multiple prints as long as PS in running but restarting PS loses the setting.

yes I often want the plain paper/auto setting as default so I leave it you can save any custom settings in a nice drop down box in the printer interface
for printing from PS
I have several with different color settings and papers

I use this facility also but frequently I find that PS will revert to using the default XP print settings which is the problem I posted

I know in progs like MS Publisher the file itself save your printing preferences as part of the file. For example, if I create then print a document, save it, the next time I open it the printer settings will be the same as before. I do not see that with PS docs.
