Been naming files in PS 6 and 7 for years, as an example, say "flower 1.1", to identify steps just like software companies identify updates. When saved the file would be "flower 1.1.tif", no problem. However, with CS, if I try and save a file using the decimal system, the file ends up being "flower 1.1", with the .1 being the file extension. This of course becomes an unopenable file until I rename the file and add the proper file extension. Is this just my system, a bug or what? Is there a way around this. Ive been having to substitute a coma for the period to get around this but sure would like to go back to the old system.

"flower 1.1.tif" works ok for me in CS…
Do you have "Append File Extension" preference set to ‘Always’?

I have the same problem. Customer support recomended avoid file name with decimal. Sorry but I could not find "Append file extension" in preference. There is only lower or upper case extension save option
Probably MarkATS talking about MAC computer?

Thanks Mark and Simon.

Ive never seen Append File Extension either on a PC.

That is a strange reply from customer support, considering how common the use of the decimal system is in the naming process of anything tech related. Oh well, guess Ill stay with the coma system.

I have also had that problem in the past but figured that that is just how naming conventions are with the computer. I have gotten use to using an underline instead of the period. Almost as fast.

Wesley, did you have the problem with different programs or older versions of PS. The reason I ask is because Ive been using the decimal system with every application Ive ever used including PS 6 and 7 and never encountered any problems. The bummer now is I have been going back through alot of my old files and doing minor adjustments with the new Shadow/Highlight and keep forgetting to change the name when saving. Its not a big deal but I think the old saying about teaching an old dog new tricks applies. Ill get it together one of these times.

This of course becomes an unopenable file until I rename the file and add the proper file extension.

Why is it "unopenable?" The filename extension has NOTHING to do with Photoshop’s ability to open a properly formatted file…
