Every time I try to use the pen tool in the latest version of photoshop, it creates a layer mask and starts whiting out the given area. Since i want to pen aroudn the subject I wish to mask out.. this is the wrong way for me.

How can I switch it back to just showing me the points and line, and stop whiting out the area as it goes.. it makes adjusting the mask a pain in the ass.

Thanks all.

In the pen options at the top sellect Paths (second option in PS7) instead of Shape or Fill pixels.

When you select the pen in CS you’ve got three options, indicated in the upper bar. Three icons that let you choose between Shape layers (default), Paths or Fill Pixels. You should click the Paths icon. (the icon displaying a box with a pen in its fill)
