Serial Number has expired

I was working on PS 7 and closed the program. Then I needed to reopen the program and received the following message: "Could not complete your request because the serial number has expired" Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried to reinstall the program and was told that my serial number is not valid.

You will need to contact Adobe. It sounds like you may have purchased a Beta version, which had a time expiration date…

I had the exact same problem. How can you identify if it is a Beta version? I checked under Properties of the Photoshop.exe file and all it says for version is 7.0– no mention of the word Beta or anything else. How does one know?

The serial number message is a good clue. The place you purchased the software is another. If you acquired your program somewhere other than an authorized dealer, there is a good chance you will get stung like this. Follow whozit’s advice and call Adobe. Perhaps you will be able to help them put a fraud artist out of business.

In case anyone has forgotten, the 7.01 updater would give the same message because the updater had a list of known serial numbers that were floating around the web and invalidated those. Registered users were given a new serial number.

As far as being a BETA version, it is more likely to be a trial version than a beta.

No, the 7.01 updater just said that it couldn’t find 7.0 on the system if it detected a widely circulated serial number.

Trial versions simply won’t start up. AFAIK, they don’t require a serial number. This sounds like a beta to me.

Help>About Photoshop. If the Splash screen shows a build number (Version 7.0 x116 for example), it’s a Beta.

Thanks for the tip, Len. Unfortunately, I cannot get to the Help–> About Photoshop menu because the program will not open. I checked the Splash screen that appears when you first open it (which is as far as the program will allow me to go) and there is no build number. Do trial or Beta versions differ in any way in appearance from full retail versions? i.e. is there any way to know just by looking at the CD itself before even using it?

Are there any other possibilities besides it being a Beta or trial version? Does the fact that there is no build number definitively rule out the possibility of it being a Beta version?
