Hey folks,

Frustrated at something … and I may be missing the obvious here, but … all though all options are clicked in the ‘history options’ window … Photoshop still isn’t saving all of my moves.

I’ll make maybe, 20 moves and go back to find the first or second .. only to find it not there .. the history doesn’t go back that far.

What am I doing wroing … and how can I correct this?

Thanks a bunch!

Change the number of History States you have set in Preferences. ——————————-

Then you have to open your eyes further. It’s in the ‘General’ preferences, third line.

Version? I only have 7.0.1 installed on this machine at the moment and it’s on the "General" preferences page, on the right-hand side of the page. I can’t recall if this varies by version.

Excuse me, but there IS no history states in that area in version CS … all I’m showing is this:

Automatically create first snapshot
Automatically create new snapshot when saving
Allow non-linear history
Show new snapshot diaplog by default

Where the heck do I find the history states???

In version 5.5 it was simple …

Dee,

Go to alt.binaries.test. I posted a screen capture of the Edit>Preferences>General screen for you with the History States marked. Let me know if you have problems getting it. It is UUEncoded and the Subject Line Header reads: Photoshop History States, posted by Hunt.

You haven’t been wearing your glasses have you?

in CS, Edit.Preferences/general:

First box: General
Second Box: Color Picker
Third Box: Image Interpolation
Fourth Box: History States

I’ve been concerned for Dee too, as others have directed him/her to the spot. I did a screen capture and posted it elsewhere, in case there is some glitch in Preferences’ screen with that install.

BUT, I’ve had exact directions to something and stood there scratching my head, totally unable to see it! I thought that a pic might help.

You are not looking at Preferences, you are looking at Options from the drop-down menu in the History Palette.

Go to "Edit > Preferences > General."

Can you find the ‘edit’ menu? It’s at the top of the window on the menu bar between ‘file’ and ‘view’. At the bottom of the ‘edit’ menu is ‘preferences’. Click ‘preferences’ and then click ‘general’. Now, if you can’t find ‘History States’ you ain’t using Photoshop. If you are using Photoshop and you do manage to find the ‘History States’ box…use your keyboard to enter the number of history states you want. I’m assuming you can find your keyboard. How about RTFM or looking in Help? "Hunt" wrote in message

Don’t worry. I think we have all been there, or someplace similar, at some time in our lives. I’ve plodded all around check boxes, especially on large, hi-rez monitors with small fonts. Sometimes a map is better than written directions. Glad you found it. You can also determine (PS CS) if History is linear, or not, and can save variations of History States to the file’s metadata database for examination of what was done. Too bad that the History palette doesn’t load that data, so one could go back after a Save, but maybe v9 will. These "gifts" do increase the file’s size, and can exact a toll on your computer’s resources, so I’d say use them when needed.

In this case the picture helped.
