A little off topic but here goes:
I am working more and more in Photoshop CS with photographs and need a better monitor. I am looking for something in a 19" (unless I can find a great deal on a 21") CRT monitor and need some suggestions as to make, model and or what to look for in a monitor. What is everyone else using on Windows machines for Photoshop? I will be using calibration hardware/software on the monitor so this is a consideration also. Also a reputable place to get the monitor on the web would be great to know also. I am about googled out looking at monitors on the web and probably confused as well. Thanks for the help.

I had excellent results with 2 RasterOps (Hitachi) MC21 HR’s, so I added 2 Hitachi CM815+’s to my newer workstation. These 21" monitors have provided flawless operation for 8 and 4 years, respectively. I had looked at the CM828 ‘s, but the Hitachi rep talked me out of them, in favor of the CM815+ units, even though the 828’s were about US$100/ea more. Refresh is great through Matrox Dual-head cards at 32 & 64MB, respectively. I’ll probably upgrade the cards to Matrox 256’s soon, but would not part with my monitors.

With the prices on CRT monitors where they are, I’d urge you to think as large as will fit onto your desktop. Personally, I also find the dual monitor system to be great for PS and would not want to do it with a single monitor.

I don’t know what the street price for the CM815+ is, if it is still being made, but all of my experiences have been extremely positive.

Since I have had 0 problems, I cannot comment on support, repairs, or maintenance issues.

Hope this helps a little,
Hunt

Iiyama. Excellent quality and a good price. I use one of their 19" monitors as my main monitor and a 17" as my secondary monitor.

Oh bum. All this talk of dual monitors, I just know I’m going to have to get a new shoebox.

If you intend to calibrate a monitor, make sure that it has an explicit setting for a color temperature of 6500, and it allows you to adjust each rgb color gun separately. Many mid range monitors, such as a Sony G400, do not have these features.
