hi there

If i go to the trouble of cutting all sorts of images
out of orginal pictures to make composit type pictures up it seems madness to waste all my hard work
by flattening my picture and saving it.(iam sure you will agree) as i might want to use the person, animal, object in another picture at a later date

i know if i save the image as a proper photoshop file and tick the layers box
it saves and preserves all the layers contained within that image and if i open that image again i can cut and paste them into other pictures etc

but is there a easy way to save just the layers indviduley instead of having to delete them one by one and saving the orginal image over and over again ???

iam sure there is ..

any help welcome sorry iam a little green, stil new to photoshop..

Open your image select the layer you want to save ‘individually’. Go to image -> duplicate and check the ‘duplicate merge layers only’ box.. give the document a name and hit OK. voila, you have a copy of just the layers you have selected whilst leaving your original, layered PSD intact… I hope this is what you meant…

Maybe I’m missing something here, but where did the image for the layer come from in the first place ? Wasn’t it (somehow) in the computer anyways ?

I would use keyboard shortcuts to make it faster anyways,

Select layer
ctr-a (to select layer)
ctr-c (to copy layer)
ctr-n,enter (to create new document the size of the clipped image) ctr-v (to paste)
ctr-sft-s (to save as)

repeat for each layer.

HI CHAPS , ME AGAIN

Thanks for the info, the answers was good to me
i have managed to do just what i needed to do

here is how i managed it.

1 open picture one
2 cut out a segment using meganetic lasso tool ( example fish ) 3/ select copy
3/ open my new pictures and paste it into the new position.

that means i now have two layers on my 2nd picture
now select the fish , and go to Layer – duplicate layer

4/ duplicate fish as fish save as ( called it fish only ) under the destination , use the pulldown tab , and select new and enter a new name ( Example fish-only ) click ok

5/ this will then create a new windows with the cut-out fish in it now to to file save , select psd large , and save to the directory you wish the end ..

its now ready to use when you need it

de paul thanks lads
