When the healing brush & patch tool first made their appearance back in 7, I was told that setting the image cache levels to 5 would improve their performance. And without any scientific testing… it did seem to speed them up. Can anyone explain why this would be the case and also, would this still be true in CS?

Thanks-

Because those tools can use the image cache/pyramid for performance, and yes it is still true in CS (although other problems suggest that you should leave it set at 4).

Thank you for answering Chris. What are the other issues regarding leaving them set at 4?

is this being worked on chris, or is this the way it’ll be until next full release?

It’s so minor (and workaround-able) that it’ll wait for the next full release.

Greg – sometimes you can save a file that won’t open again without errors. Setting the cache level back to 4 avoids the errors (and allows you to reopen the file).
