Photoshop CS and Color Printing Issues

I just installed Photoshop CS and printed a color image. The image comes out in black on the color printer. I haven’t changed anything in the settings, just went through them and everything looks ok.
No matter what I do, all I get is b/w printouts.
If I use a different application for images I actually get color printouts. So there is nothing wrong with my printer (Lexmark C750).
Who knows what the problem is and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

I’m not an expert in this area, but this is something to do with colour management. PS is colour managed – most other apps are not. As a first cut, turn off colour management.

Stephan,

You didn’t mention what sort of files you are trying to print, but one thing I have seen create the black page you describe is trying to print 16 bit files.

So all I am suggesting is to make certain that the files you try to print are 8-bit color.

Good luck

Thanks guys.
I am trying to print ordinary jpg files right now. They are 8-bit color. Still trying to get it to work. I even tried to contact Adobe Support but was on hold for 20 minutes. So I gave up because of the non-existent toll-free number. 🙁
So if somebody knows the "fix" for this it would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

In your print dialogue box, below your preview, it says "Show More Options" go to "Color Management" and make sure the Print Space is not "Working Gray" that it is "Same As Source"

If the printer works in colour in other apps, meaning your printer driver settings are correct, it stands to reason the settings in PS CS are to blame. I wouldn’t however turn off colour management. Adobe has online resourses that can explain colour management in case you aren’t too familiar with it, and why you should keep it turned on. There you will find explanations for the various settings and may well find your answer. If you do need to contact someone for support, try Lexmark instead of Adobe, that might work.

Also, keep in mind if you use colour settings in your printer driver as well as within PS CS, then you are actually doing colour management twice. My experience with Epson drivers (sorry I can’t offer you any advice regarding Lexmark)is to check ICM under colour management and then check No Colour Management, that way I’m turning off the printer’s colour management and using only PS CS settings. That has proven to give me the best colour and most neutral B&W inkjet prints.

Sorry my response isn’t more exact for your problem,

Ian

I am talking about the Photoshop CS printer options. Go to File>Print With Preview. check the box that says "Show More Options"
there is a drop down menu that says either "Output" or "Color Management" go to color management, and make sure the profile isn’t "Working Grey"
