Hey all..

Suddenly having trouble with printing from Photoshop CS.. [FYI, using PS CS on OSX Panther, Adobe RGB1998 Color space, Epson 2200 printer, double sided matte paper].. here’s the deal..

I’m retouching some photos, and they look great on my screen
[calibrated with Monaco EZ Color] and then when I go to print, I hit
print preview, and the image within the preview box does not match the colors of the actual image on my screen. It looks rather yellow and dull compared to my screen.. the printer actually prints like the "print preview" image more than the actual image on my screen.. it’s so strange..

What would make the preview image appear differently than the image on my screen? It’s driving me nuts trying to figure it out.. I’ve tried all sorts of color profiles and different printer settings but nothing seems to fix the problem..

Can anyone offer me some advice? I’ll make it worth your while!

Thanks..

The Epson preview image is in printer color space. Since the printer color space does not match your screen, it may be considered an uncorrected image for screen viewing purposes, and not particularly relevant to whether your printed image matches.

OTOH, knowing this, you do get some idea of what the printer profile is doing to your image. A very yellow preview might (emphasis on "might") mean that your display is set to ahigh color temperature. Run Adobe Gamma and set the temp down to 6500K or even less. This is not central to your problem, though, IMHO.

As for the printed image matching the preview image, this is a separate issue from the preview being yellow. It is quite easy to double profile your printed image in photoshop, though with Epson’s the hallmark of this is a magenta image, not a yellow one. Check out your printer setup and procedure in the appropriate articles at Ian Lyons’s excellent web page http://www.computer-darkroom.com/
