Is there any way to convert a custom shape in Photoshop to a clipart image usable in, say word or greeting card software?

hmmm – i think there used to be a way in powerpoint to save any custom image as a word metafile WMF

i don’t know if PS does it in one step or not

I am sure there will be far more experienced people along with more direct info 🙂

Not sure if this is exctly what you’re after, but it seems to me you want to store vector-based data. I found a tiny bot on this:

[Saving Vector Data in an EPS]
Apparently in PS7 if you want to save your file as an EPS file and include vector data then having your vector shape as a work path in the paths palette isn’t good enough, you’ll need to make sure that your vector shape is on a shape layer in the layers palette. If you’ve already built your shape as a mere path, fear not, select the work path in the paths palette and go to "Edit / Define Custom Shape" and name your shape and store it in the custom shapes palette. With the custom shape tool selected click the Shape Layers button in the tool’s options bar then you’ll be able to drag out the vector shape onto it’s own new shape layer, and then saving as an EPS, you’ll be able to include vector data. Who knew?

WMF is Windows Metafile…not word metafile (just a small point)…and i never new PPT could do this…WOW…that might come in handy at work as i nee to sometimes get things from PPT to either illustrator or corel.

ANyway….i DONT thing PS will export or convert to WMF or either EMF for that mater…those are vectors and PS is raster.

you CAN import vectors into PS using illustrator…but when you go to save your file the vectors will become rasterized.

Cheers jrzyguy – WMF and all that

It was a long time ago 🙂 F’rinstance Harvard Graphics used to do it too but it was a real pain installing from the 10 (yep! 10) floppy disks

HG was nice by allowing decomposition & recomposition of vector files

Arts

ps – yep PPoint allows save as into wmf and emf 🙂

yes – especially after the abacus crashed

getting all the beads back in place was always dull

but a good sophisticated pro could make it last all day 🙂

We used to use sticks for 1s and rocks for 0s in our computers. Laid them out in the backyard. Had to move bits by hand.

Every once in a while a dog would come up, wanting to play fetch, and crash the computer.

But you try to tell that to the young people of today, and they dont believe you…
