I was given a batch of tiff files that were compressed (as tiffs) using jpeg compression. They were created with PS ver 7. I get a wrong file format message when I try to open them using any version of PS including version CS.

Did my contractor totally screw up or is there something wrong with my set up?

Also, JPEG compressed tiffs, I’m confused, are these lossless or not?

The JPEG algorithm is lossy, no matter what file format you encode it in.

Unfortunately, I can’t help with your problem…

From recollections in my memory; yes TIFF supports JPEG compression. TIFF is a fileformat that has been extended alot…so there are a LOT of varients of it including rarer ones such as the JPEG one.

Maybe the JPEG varient support was omitted in Other versions of PS.

You can always use one of the GRAPHICS FILE VIEWER appliacions on the web to view them, most also allow Conversion to other file formats.
