Is that a CS error message or a ZA error?
It’s a photoshop message.
Colin,
The only port I noticed Photoshop CS using was port 53, which I asked about on this forum and was told it was a bug where Photoshop tried to contact the Version Cue file management even when it wasn’t installed. I had been blocking ALL access for Photoshop CS under Zonealaram Pro’s Program Control/Programs and was told this shouldn’t hurt (it hasn’t). This is under W2K and with Zonealarm Pro version 4.0.146. If you’re using the free version of Zonealarm, there might be other issues as it’s not as configurable.
Did you check the Alerts & Logs to see what programs (or Photoshop CS at any rate) were trying to do internet access or local intranet access(i.e. the port 53)?
A lot of components associated with Photoshop CS are recorded and allowed to run automatically by Zonealarm Pro (I didn’t have to do any configuration after installing CS). If something doesn’t show up when you look through the Zonealarm logs, you might try asking on the Zonealarm.com user forums, as they’re pretty helpful when it comes to configuration for programs.
Mike
sounds like an uninstall, get latest ver and reinstall of zonealarm is in order.
Timothy – since there is no spyware in Photoshop, that doesn’t make much sense.
slap youself tim, hard. NO HARDER YOU FOOL! Then report back to us in the lounge to let us know how it felt.
have a nice day.
Mike…..
FYI, I’m using W2K and a registered copy of Zonealarm Pro. It’s version 45_538. Yes, CS is trying to get to local port 53. Are you saying I should allow this access….since it’s a local port I can’t see why not.
Colin
Also noticed something called CLEANUP seems to get blocked at the same time as launching CS. Any idea what this is?
Colin
you don’t need to block it. it’s local access and it’s technically a bug. it’s looking for it’s own version of version cue (adobe’s version mgmt software).
not exactly sure what cleanup is, and I don’t think it’s adobe releated, but it’s possible that’s something related to cleaning up any stray ps temp files laying around. it’s possible, but not probable as i don’t think that ps process is a seperate application.
Colin,
Yes. Add it to your trusted list. Port 53 is the local DNS server
I, too, am using Zonalarm Pro ver 4.5.594 and CS tries to access the internet using port 53 every time I start it up (when I am online), but it isn’t trying a localhost access. It is attempting to connect to my ISP’s domain name server 25 miles away in Branson, MO. I ran a trace on the IP number. This doesn’t seem consistent with what I have read on this thread, but I am no network guru. If I am not online it doesn’t attempt to access the net thru my on-demand dialup. I have, in the past, let it access the net and there is network activity going on for a number of seconds. This is definitely not a false alarm by ZA Pro.
What is actually happening is that CS is sending information from your: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Adobe\FileBrowser directory to Adobe so they can forward it to the U.S. government if they find pornographic or monetary imagery being catalogued. Apparently they get a tax break for doing so.
Well — That explains it!! 🙂 Glad to see there is someone else around more paranoid than I am. — Or possibly someone with a better sense of humor.
I think I.D. traded his sense of humor to be a beta tester, so it must be true!
Just because your NOT paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not after you….:-)

Re: "traded his sense of humor to be a beta tester".
Adobe will never let me be a beta tester because I expect way too much. I know when I beta tested PageMill 3, late in the process, I came up with five problems within two hours which were new to them, two of which they solved, the rest of which they didn’t solve but bought GoLive and wrecked the program as an excuse. THH.
A little giddy: lawyers, landlords and banks. My three least favourite things in life, what you will do to get a house.
Check your ZoneAlarm Log and you’ll find that "Cleanup", probably a component to manage its tmp files, was blocked and not allowed to call openProcess on Adobe Photoshop CS.
To fix the problem, just go to Program Control under ZoneAlarm, find Cleanup program, highlight it and select options, then select "Allow OpenProcess".
Photoshop CS now should run under ZoneAlarm.
Good luck
Michel
If all fails Colin, de-install CS, then re-install without shutting down ZoneAlarm. At the first start-up of CS, ZA will ask if you want Photoshop to access the web, answer yes, and it should all be OK. I have been running both with no problem and I never shut down ZA or AdWatch before installing programs because I like to get warnings from AdWatch about registry changes.
Thanks Roger….
I managed to fix this a while back by unistalling Zonealarm and then installing CS.
Been alright since
