On my PC I have a very nice NEC FP 1375x 22" CRT monitor. I love it. It’s is spot on for correct color, a real gem.

On my G5 Mac I have a 23" Cinema Display LCD. Color is great and hey, it’s just a good monitor. However, for Photoshop work I just don’t get the detail I do on the NEC CRT. I have given it a good try but, it just isn’t cutting it for the work I do.

I am considering getting ( 2 ) LaCie 22" ElectronBlue IV monitors with the funds I get from selling the Apple display. I’ll have some bucks left over to get some goodies and I LOVE the idea of a dual monitor setup for Photoshop!

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Experience with LaCie monitors? Especially the above models? Maybe alternatives? There is the 24" wide screen Sony GDM FW 900 CRT which is VERY nice but, it IS about $1800 too. I could perhaps swing it but, I have mixed feelings about it. I’m not ruling it out.

Appreciate any help/links or whatever. TIA.

The LaCie monitors, along with Iiyama and Mitsubishi, all use the same Mitsubishi tubes. The only difference is what they do with it 😉 As the Mitsubishi tubes are generally excellent (I use Iiyamas and have a Mitsubishi on another computer) I would say that they will undoubtedly give you good results.

Thanks. I have read good, if not outstanding reviews of the LaCie’s.

Are the hardware calibrators worth the expense?

It depends. If you are doing this for a living, they are essential. If it’s a serious hobby, I’d definitely get one. IF| you’re a casual user (and for what you’ve said I’d guess you aren’t, I’d just use Gamma).

To some extent it also depends on the uses to which you put images. A spider is essential if you print, especially if you do prepress. It’s less essential if anything you do remains on a monitor because, again, you can just use gamma.
