Greetings Photoshop Users,

I recently upgraded to the new and improved CS version of Photoshop. Using the File Browser, I was happily getting organized and assigning keywords to my thousands of images and making new catagories and adding all kinds of keywords and groups of keywords (to batch add to images) and everything was just peachy until the other day when I opened Photoshop to discover that ALL of my keywords and lists of keywords from the assigned keywords section of the file Browser had just vanished!!! and I was now staring at the default list that came with this program! I noticed that I could select images on the browser and it would add image keywords back to the browser, but when I leave and return to the program, they are lost again! Where are those lists of keywords kept? I can’t find anything in the program Help files, nor on Adobe’s website about this. Have you had this problem?

I had the same problem; several times.

The keywords are stored in the file "Keywords.psp", along with all the other PS preferences and settings, in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings. As you discovered, you can restore the keywords by selecting pictures in the browser. You can do this a whole folder at a time. Then, when you have things how you want them, close PS and make a copy of the new version of Keywords.psp, which should have today’s date, in a safe place. It can then be copied back to the settings folder if they disappear again.

This is a bit of a pain but no-one here has come up with either an explanation or more elegant solution.

Cheers – John
