On my old machine I used to have some plain simple coloured strip, or horizontal band type as well as diagonal patterns. Simnple colours, blue – white, green – pale green etc.
Obviously I must have downloaded them, but obvioulsy (again) I didn’t archive them before I got my new machine. I’ve had a good search on the web but can’t see the set that I downloaded. Any ideas ?

This is probably the gradients palette. Select the gradient tool – it may be hidden from view as a flyout behind the paint bucket "Fill" tool. Then click on the dropdown in the tool settings to see the gradients – diagonal colored patterns as you describe. If they are missing, use the menu button in the gradients palette to reset them.

Mike Thanks, I know what you mean. I’ve got the gradiant fills etc. What I was meaning was say for instance I make a selection, a rectangle or whatever, then edit – fill . Its these patterns I’m talking about, repeating tiles etc. I’ve reset the pattern, added the all, looked on the web but cannot see the ones I used to have before. What I use them for is to mark and update a map I do for a client. Now that I’ve lost these patterns I have to use what is on the map (I keep the master in PSD form in layers) and copy and paste then trim and shape etc. Bit of a nuisance.
If you go to (and I’m not looking to increase hits)
http://www.polkemmetoccs.co.uk/images/introduction/progress. htm to see the type of patterns I used and their usage. Please bear in mind the opacity of the layers have been reduced slightly to allow underlying detail. So, if anyone knows where I can get these patterns I’ll be much obliged. Cheers

I don’t recall these ever being part of the standard pattern sets, but if you have them in a psd it should be a simple matter to select a square/rectangular portion of each and "Define Pattern." Curious, do the patterns exist in Fill in the master psd file?

No, not now, thats the problem, I have to take what is in each of the layers now and then copy a part, stretch it, clone it etc so that I can add to an area e.g the backfilling is now into area C or whatever (assuming that you looked at the example. When I first did the map, I probably used the wrong methodology and got myself into a pickle. I’ll get by, but it was nice just to able to define an area and then fill it. You live and learn with Photoshop (and I am always learning more than living)

Cheers

Craig, it is unfortunately, but again, it shouldn’t be difficult to remake these patterns from your master so you don’t have to stretch, clone, etc. all the time.

For instance, for the red/white horizontal stripe pattern, use the rectangular marquee tool to select a vertical rectangle, say 4px wide or whatever, from the top of the red to the bottom of the white. Since your layers contain transparency you might then copy/paste into a new document, then select all and Edit>Define Pattern.

For all these stripe patterns shown you just need to select a logical rectangular area of them to remake them as patterns. When you have them all, be sure to select Fill>Pattern Click the Custom Pattern menu arrow and in that menu click the flyout arrow at the top to Save Patterns. Once you see how simple it is to make thes patterns you might decide to make a whole new batch;)

I should have said, use your Presets Manager, select patterns, shift select all you new line patterns and then Save Set.

Do you ever have a " doh" moment, when you think, why don’t I make my own. Your last couple of posts highlighted my major "doh" moment…sorry, not moment but era.

Had friends around tonight but will be creating my patterns tomorrow (sorry today as it is now Tuesday…in the UK that is).
However, many thanks for all your help and to the others who posted.
