best way to reduce large to small picture

I have pictures that are 1MB in size and want to reduce them down to thumbnail size,around 30k whats the best way for this large reduction to ensure I maintain the best quality.

Should be fine with just Image – Image Size – use Bicubic Sharper for ‘resampling’. May need a very light USM afterwards, depending on where the image came from and what you’ve already done to it.

1 MB to thumbnail sized is considered pretty mild downsampling … I downsize 24 MB files to 100×100 pixel files (3-4 KB) often and it’s easy. Typically you don’t need a fancy series of steps until your files are much larger, say drum-scans of medium or large format film (several hundred MB).
