I have a file that, when I drag a layer from it to another file it’s becomes a different color in new file.. layer is purple, when I drag it to another file it becomes blue.. I noticed that when I go to view –> proof setup it’s set to "Working CMYK", and "Macintosh RGB", "Windows RGB", and "Monitor RGB" are grayed out.. would appreciate some suggestions.. thank you..

Frances,

What is the Color Mode of the file that you are dragging the Layer from, and what is the Mode of the file, into which you are placing the Layer? Also, the ver of PS and OS would be helpful too.

thank you for yr response.. I realized file I was copying from was CMYK and other one was RGB.. but I’m still having a color problem… 😉

I want the "Proof Setup" thing to default to "Windows RGB" or "Monitor RGB".. even if img is in RGB mode it always defaults to "Working CMYK".. this is a pain b/c sometimes when I optimize colors change.. but not if Proof Setup is set to Windows or Monitor RGB.. would appreciate suggestions here as this has caused me considerable headaches.. thank you… Frances

A CMYK is not normally displayed directly on a CRT. Duplicate the image, convert the copy to RGB and the Windows and Monitor RGB menu items will become available. Dragging the layers will work better from the RGB version of your CMYK file as well.
