I have PhotoShop v5.5 on a Win2kPro SP4 system with an HP 1218 printer. I have images I’d like to print in various locations on an 8.5×11" page. The image seems to print in the center of the page by default but I’d like to move it to other positions.

I’ve searched thru the books and help files but can’t find anything definitive. Can someone tell me the steps necessary to do that? I don’t even know what to call doing that.

TIA

Make the canvas size [Image > Canvas] 8.5 x 11. Then drag your images to where ever you want them to appear. Your file size will be much larger since you are now working with a larger image area (canvas).

Many printers will only print to a "centered" position, if the image is smaller than the area that the printer is capable of printing to. OTOH, with PS, you can easily set your Canvas Size to the printable area (for your specific printer, and I’m not familiar with it), or to the paper size, if you don’t mind a warning message that you are exceeding the printed area of the printer, and then place your image where ever you wish. Just make sure that the color for the total canvas is white, or you’ll also get some unwanted color in the printed area.

Hope this helps,
Hunt

Thanks muchly, works perfect. I made the canvas 8.5×11 transparent and moved the image to it.

Aah… Thanky, thanky. Works perfect. It’s so simple when you know how to look it up. I kept looking under print and it wasn’t there.

Glad it worked. The downside is that it increases your file size like crazy. This is one reason why there are page layout programs such as InDesign. Keith

Sometimes chicken, sometimes feathers. In this case, it gets the job done and costs nothing. Someone in business doing large volume might consider a layout program but someone just diddling around will be satisfied to get where they want to go. Style isn’t too important. Anyway, thanks again.
