Hi!

Has there ever been a photoshop 7.0 OEM version? They sell them on ebay, but I read that there were sold only a few OEM-CDs of photoshop
6.0, bundled whith a certain Kodak-digicam.

Bye,
Patrice

If it’s sold separately, it’s almost certainly illegitimate.

Here in Germany it´s legal and common to sell OEM-software seperately. The question is if its al legal (original) copy or not.

No. "OEM" means "pirated but we say OEM to ease the conscience of the people buying it." Adobe did not make OEM versions of Photoshop 7 or later; the only image editing program they OEM now is Elements.

And even if it was really "OEM," it’s still illegal to sell apart from the equipment it is supposed to come with.

They in fact sold PS 6 as OEM with a quite few amount of kodac cameras, thats a fact. (Perhaps only in germany)

Not in germany, as i already mentioned. Thats a decision of our supreme court.

It is also a fact, that at least here in germany there are sold tons of upgradable PS6 "OEM-copies" for 30€ at ebay. And although they are known as bogus, they can be activated online or via telephone (adobe will tell you it´s a legal copy) and then be updated whith an update to PS CS2 bought from adobe.
I´m not talking of dealers, which sell some copies at ebay and then disappear. These are dealers which sell those copies for years and have thousands of positve ratings.
This is known, but tolerated by Adobe. This way you can have an activated PS CS2 for 330€.

My question is only for my interest. If there really never has been a PS7 OEM, it is really surprising, that people can sell this at ebay as an upgradeble "original" OEM-copy and not even adobe is willing to stop this.

Yes. Older versions of Photoshop were available as OEM bundles, but Photoshop 7 and later were not (at least in the US and other places I’m aware of). Instead, Adobe began bundling Photoshop Elements with various scanners and cameras and such.

Adobe may or may not be aware it’s being done. This sort of thing, though, is probably on the list of reasons Adobe decided to go with a software activation scheme in Photoshop CS.
