This is an age-old debate, but it has not been fully discussed (according to archives) since the latest releases of both sets of software. I use FW but recently came across some shortcomings, specifically no Overlay Blend (so useful), so I’m looking at PS.

Macromedia put out a table denigrating PS a few years ago: http://www.macromedia.com/software/fireworks/productinfo/mat rix/

Does this all still apply? What are the key differences, if any, between these two apps?

Does PS, as people who use FW say, not do vector graphics well? Does it require another program (Illustrator?) to make vector graphics that are then imported into PS, often with a loss of data manipulability? (Just rumors I have heard, don’t shoot me).

And btw, is there any way to "mass convert" FW PNG files to PSD files?

FWIW & IMHO what the heck does a checklist show?

When Supplier1 compares products with Supplier2 is there any chance that Supplier 1 will say Supplier 2 is better? How long will the employee responsible at Supplier1 remain an employee?

I may download a trial of this if there is one – the edge IMHO is that I gel with the workability and methodology of PSCS and the CS bundle

Please don’t get me wrong – I am no expert by any means and sought solace with The Gimp when my 30-day trial of PSCS expired – both of which I rate highly

I hope this helps a little

I’m not question that. I asking for verification or denial.

I have the Gimp, but with PSCS and FW all available on the web illegally for free via bittorrent etc (or so I’ve been told), the price seems a moot point, and people don’t have to use Open Source options if they really don’t want to. And I’m not sure that the Gimp, with its slightly flaky interface, is a proper alternative to PSCS. (Please do not turn this thread into a discussion of the merits of the Gimp or Paintshop Pro, etc).

I think I’ll do a 30-day trial on FW or the whole suite

May as well see what they are like?

I can’t/won’t verify one way or the other – it really is beyond my ken – it is wonderful to have so many excellent bits of application software to choose from.

The website vids & tutorials look good.

I wonder if this is the way things will go? (a more general point I mean)

A product advert followed by 30-day or 60-day full functionality supported by divers multimedia tutorials?

No offence meant BtT & none taken

Fireworks is essentially used for web graphics which is does far better than the dog named Image Ready which is part of Photoshop.

Neither PS nor FW do vector graphics well. For vector graphics you require Illustrator, Freehand or Corel Draw. I have all three and am moving towards using Illustrator more, though I prefer some of the things Freehand can do. I used to use Draw a lot, but use it less now.
