Hey everybody,

I have the option of purchasing a Wacom graphire3 4×6 or graphire4 4×6 for about the same price.

I am looking to use it as a replacement for a mouse and to make more intuitive key commands for internet browsing and document writing. Does anyone have an opinion on which model would be better for this? I would like to use it on both PC and Mac, so compatability advice would be greatly appreciated too.

Thanks

Mark

If they are about the same price, go for graphire4, without any doubt. I have a 4×6 Graphire3 and it is totally compatible with PC and MAC and even Linux. Now I’m using a 6×8 Intuos3 with my desktop, but my Graphire3 goes always were my laptop goes.

My girlfriend has a 8×12 Intuos3 but I find it too big for drawing. Even she prefers my tablet so in this case size DOES matter but to the inverse 😉

I don’t know about Graphire4, but Intuos3 has two sets of programable buttons and finger sliders that are very useful.

One last advice: if you can get a 4×6 intuos3 for your budget, go for it.

The only problem with the Graphire is that the bottom of the mice have a felt pad to keep it from scratching the surface of the tablet. One it gets dirty and icky your stock with as there is no way to clean it or replace it. They should have done the mouse like the did for the Intuos line. This problem alone is why I wouldn’t touch a graphire.

I don’t know about other series, but in my case, it is the Intuos3 the one that has a mouse with felt bottom and the graphire3 has a mouse with plastic spot as almost every optical or optomechanical mouse.

I have an optical mouse with several extra functions, so I don’t use the Intuos3 mouse but it is true: it is a good tool to wipe all the dust from the desk and the monitor screen 🙂
