I recorded an action to save jpg files in a different destination directory which works fine.
This action saves the files of their original names (NNNN) to the new directory.

1) Is it possible to change the ACTION routine to have the file name (NNNN) be appended with a prefix (PPP_) so the file names be changed to "PPP_NNNN" before saving to the new directory.

Or

2) to PAUSE the Action to show the Saving Dialogue to allow me to input the new file name; then continue to save it to the new directory.

Thanks.

To do # 2 click the arrow by the action name to show all the steps, then on the step you wish to pause on click the 2nd column from the left, which is the "Toggle dialog on/off" switch. This will pause and open the dialog box so you can enter the new name, then the action will continue after you accept the dialog box entry.

The Pause caused the Directory not be changed to the Destination desired as recorded in the Action. How can I get the Destination Directory changed first before the saving dialogue shown at the Pause step?

Maybe I didn’t understand what you’re trying to do … when I check the ‘toggle dialog’ box on the ‘save as’ step it opens the dialog box and I can enter a new directory name in the ‘save in’ menu. So I think the answer to your Q is you have to set it each time.

Not sure which version you are on but with CS2’s Bridge I use the Batch Rename feature from the Tools menu.

YES under the automate batch is a dialog box for re-naming fill it out with prefix+ file name+ number or letter if you want+file ending choose the directory to save there as well
