Deleting Preference File

I am trying to work my way through the book, "Photoshop 5 Classroom in a Book." It says to restore default preferences, start by deleting the Preference File before beginning the lesson. I went to Photoshop5/Adobe Photoshop Settings/ and found 4 files:

1. Actions Palette.psp
2. Adobe Photoshop5 Prefs.psp
3. Color Settings.psp
4. Photos50.ini

Should I delete all 4 files, only the .psp files, or only the Adobe Photoshop5 Prefs.psp?

As I recall the APSIAB for 5, there is nothing that will be affected by leaving all but the Adob….Perfs.psp file. When doing the various exercises (3 – 7 and probably the same with CS), I do not bother doing this, especially as I might receive an emergency call from a client, and don’t want to have to go to my backup Perfs setting. I just know that something might not work exactly per the instructions.

One caveat!!!!!! Make a re-named backup, or create a BU folder for any Perfs file you are likely to delete. While it’s not a catastrophe, you don’t need to reset all your Prefs, when you get on with work, or play, in PS.

Hold down the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys immediately after starting Photoshop.
Voila, Preferences files deleted, no need to fiddle around with your individual files.
