I could not find ( fast paging admitted) a way to change the color of an image in CS2 to Pseudo color, in either’ Photoshop for Photographers – Martin Evening’ "Classroom in a Book’ or "How to do everything in PSC S2′. I also own most of the versions for CS as well, and
believe me, I went through more books and hours on Internet & Search machines. And all that, while I could have asked you guys here:-)

Of course the colors can be distressed in Brightness/Contrast but there should be a more sophisticated way.
One of the composite methods in Corel Painter is very well Pseudo Color, but I want to be able to do it in PS as well.

From the Help page

1.. Open the indexed-color image.
2.. Choose Image > Mode > Color Table.
3.. Click or drag in the table to choose the color or range of colors you want to change.
4.. Choose a color, as explained in Using the Adobe Color Picker, and click OK.

sht.. why on earth, either on PSD or JPG (will check TIF now, but why would it be different) is ‘Color Table’ not active, can’t open it? Anyway, be back now – le’me first find a way to activate it…

The image mode is "indexed color", so you must first convert to indexed color, therafter, a color table is available. An RGB image does not contain a color table.

The Color Table command lets you make changes to the color table of an indexed-color image. These customization features are particularly useful with pseudocolor images— images displaying variations in gray levels with color rather than shades of gray,

Thanks a lot Peter – here it is in Indexed Mode now, and the Color Table opened. Very obvious that I am reading the help file, is it not:-)
Thanks again,

Thanx for this one. Here is a complete new (pseudo)world and six hours to midnight to figure this one out.
Funny, on my first try, the colors on System (Mac OS)
was closer to real (green is green and red is red) then on System (Windows) while I am using Windows.

Color Table is only active for Indexed Color images.

An RGB image, a CMYK image, and a Lab image do not have a color table, therefore the Color Table command is not available.

Thanks tacit. Someone else also explained it.
Been there but 256 colors max wil not do, which make curves the answer for pseudo. Anyway, now I know how to get
to the color table:-)
