Oliver’s got it right! Except I downloaded free enhancements for PSE3 from Paul Shipley
http://member.melbpc.org.au/~pshipley/ that do pretty much what his downloaded extras do. The enhancements include curves (as a filter, not an adjustment layer, which is the way it’s applied in PSE5 too) + channels and masks. I’ve developed a contrast enhancement approach using a duplicate layer and the USM filter that I find as effective as curves, so curves aren’t critical any more. If you use a PC, find a discounted copy of PSE3 (not PSE4 because it doesn’t welcome the enhancements discussed above) and download the enhancements. You will be happy!

Hi
I have PE version 3. I see that PE5 is now out. Has anyone used it & is there any real advantage over PE3 ??
Thanks
K
Yes, lots. The bigger jump, I think, is 3 to 4. You get the magic wand, magic extractor, etc. From 4 to 5 you get the color curves tool. Plus lots of other stuff in both upgrades. I think it’s worth it. Don
The "curves" tool in PE5 isn’t what you expect. There is very little to really get in going from PE4 to PE5. PE3 when combined with the add-on from http://www.hiddenelements.com/index.htm is superior to either.
