I would like very much to make an image which, when looking at the desktop for instance, would show what is behind the image. The reason I would like such a thing is that the digital camera program we use, C1 Pro, has an extremely lame overlay feature wherein a layout image can be superimposed on the capture window. The problem is the only way to see the captured image is to reduce the opacity of the layout. Not altogether satisfactory! If a layout image could be made that had an actual hole in it, it could just be placed on top of the capture program.
When the Photoshop welcome screen comes up the desktop is visible around and between the image feathers. (Also visible when ‘About Photoshop’ is clicked) So it must be possible. What kind of image is this? Any ideas? Mark

That must be on the latest version, which I dont have. But in general programs use a black and white matte for such things and is part of the operating system. If it supports mattes, you can have transparent areas. If not, then everything will be in a box. Sames goes with a png images. If the browser supports the alpha channel (no version of IE does), then the image will have transparent areas. Note that browsers do support alpha for gif images, which is basically a b&w matte embedded in the image.
