How do I change the percentage of opaque in the mask mode? Say from 50% to 100%?

A mask is just a greyscale. So black is 100% opaque and white is 0%. Choose 50% grey [127:127:127] and you get the effect of 50% opacity.

There are probably 2 other ways to do this …

For changing Opacity (and color) of your Quick Mask…double click on the right icon directly below the Foreground/Background swatches in the Toolbox, or on the Quick Mask channel in the Channels Palette.

To change those properties in a regular mask, double click on the Mask Channel in the Channels Palette, or on the icon for the mask in the Layers Palette.
