Once in awhile the CNTL key seems to be not working when in PS CS (WinXP). For example, CNTL-0 and CNTL-ALT-0 won’t zoom, and CNTL-1/2/3 won’t display individual channels, etc. What did I do to get into this situation, and how do I get out of it? Thanks.

You have an unlicensed copy of PS. That’s how.
You get out of it by buying a real copy.

Got a Logitech keyboard?

Have you tried another keyboard or clean yours. Could be a sticky key. Had mine happen on Caps Lock Key. Seems the key you use most is usually the one you have problems on.

You got ripped of, real key boards don’t have CNTL keys, they have two 2 Ctrl keys.

yea, everything that goes wrong with PS is because it is an unlicensed copy? It’s a keyboard problem.

Could be.

There is a known keyboard bug with Logitech keyboards – it’s why you are seeing those keyboards at clearance prices.

Also, Adobe found a way to disable shortcuts on unlicensed versions.

So when someone posts here about their shortcuts not working, either:

(a) they have a logitech keyboard
or
(b) they are clueless software thieves

I suggested a solution given (b).
Maybe you could suggest a solution given (a).

Or do you want frozen to go out and buy a fancy Logitech keyboard, just like his last one?

On a Toshiba laptop, with a licensed and activated ver of CS, I’ve noticed the same thing on several occasions. It hasn’t happened often enough to trace what else might have been going on, i.e. printing, writing to disk, etc. but I’ve usually found that changing the selected tool will clear it up. In two instances, I closed, then re-opened the file, and Ctrl was back in order. I’ve never had a problem like this with PS back to ver 2, though none of them has been on the Toshiba. Unfortunately, other than to say, "hey, it’s happened to me too," I can’t offer help. It does seem that we are the only two, to whom this has happened.

Not entirely alone out there.
I know at least 3 other people, 2 with cordless keyboards who have that problem. Like you said, change the tool you are using and it goes away!

Not everyone with a Logitech keyboard has a prob, is it only those who haven’t updated the iTouch drivers?

Probably. Plus, of course, the thieves.

I suppose that I should be "glad," that some others have experienced the problem – at least I’m not alone… <G>

Until I saw the OP, I assumed that it was some quirk in the Toshiba (a new box for me), but maybe it is some minor incompatibility in PS CS. Since the laptop has far less memory and HDD space, than the workstations, that seemed a possibility, that, or maybe XP which I only have on the Toshiba. Regardless, you are correct, I just change the tool, and all is cleared up. For a bit, I was Closing the files (manually, as Ctrl-w wasn’t working), then reopening them, but now, just a tool click and I’m good to go. It would be nice to know the cause, and find a permanent fix, but I can live with this, as it only happens every coulple of days.

I thought the software pirates had got around the control key issue?
