I am pretty sure I am going to get this printer when it becomes more widely available.

I have not been able to find a very clear description of the differences between the versions.

Does anyone here know and have the time to explain?

Thanks in advance,

Did you not look to Epson?
It appears that the difference is that the Professional versin includes a RIP, but the other one doesn’t.

Does that justify the price difference for someone printing primarily from PS CS2?

Thanks in advance,

Not to me. And, if you need to ask, then probably not to you either. Jim

the standard printing software that comes with the 3800 will not allow the 3800 to print a panorama longer than 37" while the rip should ….but! you won’t be able to use icc’s for given papers with the rip …. the 37" limitation is apparently being reviewed by epson … it is not a firmware/mechanical limitation …

there are third party printer drivers for various epsons that take over from the limitations of the epson drivers, expensive – 500 dollars for the one i was reading about

but its my understanding you can’t use standard icc’s for given papers with the 3rd party drivers …

but …. if you call the 800 # for epson 800-873-7766 and tell them you won’t buy an epson 3800 until it supports long panoramas 🙂 …

its just a printer driver limitation, not a printer limitation so its up to epson …
