Hi,
I am disinclined to go the Beta route on my fragile platform so could someone tell me if Adobe has added the following things I wish they would add?

Ability to ‘Link’ to external smart objects rather than just embed.

Layer Comps with an image mode (color space and depth) in addition to visibility, order and transformation – or some way to branch sideways in the layers palette.

BTW, is there a place we can go to read a comprehensive list of new features? Is that public information?

Thanks,
Ron

Hi rubik,
Thanks for the link. I looks to me like ‘Smart Filters’ alone is worth the upgrade.

I don’t find the smart filters all that great. Why do you have to convert to a Smart Object to use them. You shouldn’t have to. It comes across as another half-assed implementation instead of something that Adobe worked long and hard on. But, then a lot of the stuff Adobe has added since version
4.0 has been half-assed.

I did not notice that – that is disappointing.

I am still an outsider when it comes to Adobe having only about 6ix months experience with their products but the Photoshop division strikes me as flush with cash but paralyzed by the momentum of tradition. They could easily add powerful vector, mesh, etc. tools to PS but the Illustrator division is in circle-the-wagons mode lacking the competence internally to move into science and engineering they cling desperately to their cult of creativity – which should naturally be migrated to the PS division. PS seems far less half-assed than Illustrator in that at least it is stable.

I agree. I think the current developers that Adobe has are the ones holding their products back. Photoshop should be a lot more advanced with a lot less hoop jumping to do things.

Live filters why can’t you select a layer and then go to filters and apply that filter or any others as a live filter. Have to convert to one thing or another is just a joke.

Why still can’t be have if/then statements for actions. Why no source code viewing and editing protection. Why can’t we save history with our images. Why can’t we convert history to an action. Why can’t they get Bridge right. It goes on and on. Most of the features they have added since version 4.0 feel more like patches on the top of what was there, which would explain why they work in an odd way or were done as plug-ins instead put in the program itself.

I think the Photoshop programmers have their heads so far up their ass they can’t breath, let alone do a proper update or add a proper feature.

Also, why still no decent sharpening, noise reduction or lens correction. Cheaper and lesser programs like Paint Shop Pro has these and they do a much better job.

Adobe and Photoshop and their programmers are quickly becoming a joke.

Really! And are you making your living as a Graphic Designer or a photographer? Do you have other real qualifications to be so critical?

Adobe and their people are doing a fine job of providing the proof of what I have said all on their own.
