Hi,

I’m in the process of building a website, however I’m having some difficulty figuring out how to edit a PSD file to make it into HTML.

I have an index.html file already with the template, along with filled images, and a folder with blank images. I have tried editing the blank images to make buttons that would look good on my site, however it didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to. So now I think the PSD file is the thing to edit in order to work this the way I hope it turns out.

If anyone has some time they wouldn’t mind to offer a bit of support, you can
email me at: heineken77 (AT) gmail . com

Thank you!! 🙂

While you ‘can’ use slices to break up the .psd and export from ImageReady – I ‘really’ wouldn’t recommend it, the code is messy and not always browser friendly… Not to mention you have to re-export the whole she-bang each time you adjust the layout…

Check your user guide index on how to use slices if you ‘must’ do it this way…

Hey, thank you for your reply 🙂

Well mabye I didn’t explain it well enough 🙂

I actually have the HTML version of the template (index.html). However, the button graphics that go along the top of the screen are not the ones I need.

There are no blank button images that came with the template. The only thing I see that I can edit is the actual .psd file that came with the template, in order to change the names of the buttons.

However, the top bar of buttons at the very top of the window, the buttons are all different sizes in width. So the question is….for a ‘not-so-experienced’ web designer as myself, would it be possible to remake that bar some how with the buttons I need?

I just need to get new button graphics, however I don’t understand how I will be able to slice the graphic in order to get those buttons to the exact size I need.

ARGHHHH lol … I’m so confused 🙁

What you can do is take a screenshot of the HTML page (index.html) and edit the screenshot in Photoshop. You can crop the image (reduce it to top row only) and when you change the button names (you can even create new buttons) you can either cut->paste into new files the parts of the top bar, or you can slice the bar up into individual parts (this should be easier).

You can also use the measure tool and measure the relevant parts of the afore mentioned screenshot. Then create new files…

Another thing you can do is just upload the HTML page (along with graphics) onto a server so we can take a look.

Thank you for your reply Branko!! I will give it a shot and see what I can come up with, if not, I will upload it to a server. I appreciate your reply! 🙂
